El viejo ya tenía 79 años. Estábamos planeando un cumpleaños sorpresa para festejar los 80.
Un 8 de marzo de 2018 agarró su bici y, como todos los días, salió a hacer las compras. De pasada, saludó a un amigo que suele tomar mates en la vereda; se detuvo también en la zapatería a saludar a otros amigos.
Desde allí emprendió el que sería su último paseo en bicicleta antes de que alguien lo embistiese con su vehículo y huyera.
El viejo sobrevivió 12 días en terapia intensiva. Una mañana salió del coma, les habló a todos, preguntó por sus nietos y al día siguiente se durmió para no volver más.
Y no hay consuelo, ni cumpleaños sorpresa, ni nietos alborotando a su alrededor. Su taller está cerrado y silencioso. Ya no hay más tangos en el patio.
No hay más Mi viejo, para siempre.
